# Custom Fields

Collect extra information from your members with your own custom fields, and control how strictly each one is required

Custom fields let you collect information specific to your club — a club ID, a committee role, a vehicle registration — on top of the standard Range Mate profile. Manage them under **Club settings → Custom fields**.

For each field you set:

* **For** — what the field is attached to (members, or shoot records).
* **Label** and **hint** — what the member sees.
* **Type** — text, number, yes/no or date.
* **Admin only** — when on, only admins see and edit it; members never see it (so it can't be required).
* **Required?** — see below.

## How "required" works

Marking a field required has three levels, so adding one never disrupts your existing members:

* **Not required** — members can leave it blank.
* **Required from now on** — only members who join *after* you add the field must complete it. Existing members aren't affected and won't be blocked while you move them through the membership lifecycle.
* **Required for all** — every member must complete it. Anyone missing a value is sent to a short "finish your profile" page showing **only** the outstanding field(s) to fill in, before they can carry on using the app.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Prefer **Required from now on** for a brand-new field. **Required for all** prompts *every* member — including long-standing ones — to complete it the next time they log in, so reserve it for information you genuinely need from everyone.
{% endhint %}
