# Lead Reclamation & Inventory

The **Lead & reclamation** tab of the range's compliance hub evidences your **management of projectiles** — recovering lead from the backstop and keeping an honest running estimate of what remains.

## The three figures

At the top you'll see three cards:

* **Est. residual lead in backstop** — the current estimate of how much lead is in the butts.
* **Deposited since…** — lead deposited from shooting since your baseline date (worked out from your range usage), plus any opening estimate.
* **Recovered to date** — the total mass you've reclaimed.

The residual is simply: **opening estimate + deposited − recovered**. Logging a reclamation **draws this figure down** — it is never reset to zero, so you keep a true picture of residual contamination.

## Per-backstop estimates

If you've added [backstops](/for-club-admins/reach-compliance/site-environmental-profile.md) for the range, a **Per-backstop estimates** table breaks the figures down per backstop. Recoveries are exact (each reclamation records which backstop was worked on); the deposited estimate is split by each backstop's **share of fire** — worked out from the lanes it serves, or set explicitly on the backstop where you know better. The rows always add up to the range totals.

## Setting a baseline

If your range already has years of lead in the butts, set a starting point so the estimate is realistic.

1. Click **Set baseline**.
2. Enter the **baseline date** — deposition is counted from here.
3. Enter the **opening in-situ estimate (kg)** — your best estimate of the lead already in the backstop at that date (from a survey, or historical usage). Use **0** for a brand-new or freshly-cleaned range.
4. Add a note on how you arrived at the figure — this strengthens the evidence.

## Logging a reclamation

Each time lead is recovered (for example, sieving a sand butt):

1. Click **Log a reclamation**.
2. Record the **date**, the **area/feature** worked on, the **method** (sieving, sifting, vacuum, excavation…), the **recovered mass in kg**, the **operative**, and the **destination** (recycler, licensed disposal, on-site storage…).

Partial reclamation is expected and fully supported — recovering 30 kg against an estimated 100 kg in situ is exactly the normal case.

Lead recovery usually needs doing on a schedule, not just once. Plan it as a repeating task on the [Actions & maintenance](/for-club-admins/reach-compliance/risk-reduction-actions.md) tab (choose the **Reclamation** category) and Range Mate will tell you when it's next due — logging the reclamation marks the task done and moves the date on.

## Waste consignments (duty of care)

When recovered lead or contaminated soil **leaves the site**, you have waste duty-of-care obligations. Record each movement under **Waste consignments**:

1. Click **Waste consignments**, then **Record consignment**.
2. Choose the **EWC waste code** (codes ending `*` are hazardous and need a consignment note), and optionally link the **source reclamation**.
3. Record the **carrier** (name + registration), the **consignment / transfer note reference**, the **receiver** (recycler/disposal site + permit), and the **quantity**.
4. Attach scanned consignment or transfer notes.

Hazardous waste (for example, lead-contaminated soil) is flagged automatically and needs a consignment note number. Keep the paperwork — it forms part of your evidence trail.
