# Paying for Your Membership

Paying for your membership, and what to do if an instalment fails

When your club asks you to pay for a membership, you'll see it on your memberships page with a **Pay Now** button. Depending on how your club has set things up, you can pay online by card or Direct Debit, or by a manual method like bank transfer using the instructions your club provides.

## Paying monthly or quarterly

If your club offers a monthly or quarterly price, choosing it sets up a **payment plan**. You save a card or a Direct Debit mandate once on the provider's secure page, the first instalment is taken there, and the rest are collected automatically on the same day each month (or every three months) until your membership ends. Your memberships page shows how many instalments you've paid, when the next one is due and what it's taken from.

**Update payment details** on that page saves a new card or account on the provider's secure page. Nothing is taken at that point: your instalments carry on at the usual dates, and if one had failed it's taken again within the hour. So it's also the way to sort things out after a failed payment.

## If an instalment fails

Sometimes an automatic payment doesn't go through, usually because a card has expired or the details have changed. If that happens:

1. Your club may email you to let you know when it will be tried again. You don't need to pay again: the payment is retried automatically, three more times over about two weeks.
2. If your card has expired or been replaced, use **Update payment details** on your memberships page before the next attempt.
3. If your bank asks you to approve the payment, the email has a link to do that.
4. Once a payment succeeds, everything carries on as normal.

{% hint style="warning" %}
If every retry fails, or the card or account you saved can no longer be charged, the plan stops and your memberships page says so. Save new payment details to carry on, or contact your club about another way to pay. Your club is told when this happens, so if you're stuck, get in touch with them.
{% endhint %}
